MOSFET delivery time is extended! The current labor shortage in Malaysia’s semiconductor industry

According to a Reuters report on the 13th, Malaysia has recently faced a shortage of manufacturing workers,

especially foreign labor, and many companies, including semiconductor companies,

had to reluctantly suspend orders and suffered huge losses.
According to local interviews with Reuters, local government,

business and industry sources said that although Malaysia has eased restrictions on the entry of overseas workers,

due to the efficiency of approval and disputes with labor-exporting countries over worker protection issues, overseas workers have not yet reached a large scale. arrival.
According to Reuters, citing local data,

Malaysia currently has a labor shortage of at least 1.2 million,

including 600,000 in the manufacturing industry, 550,000 in the construction industry, and 120,000 in the palm oil industry.

Among them, the semiconductor industry needs at least 15,000 people.

Wong Siew Hai, president of the Malaysian Semiconductor Industry Association, told the agency that chip manufacturers had to stop taking orders,

and that jobs in the industry were not attractive to locals, and many new employees would lose their jobs within half a year.
The industry pointed out that Malaysia is a global semiconductor production center.

Infineon, ON Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics, NXP and other index integrated component factories (IDMs) have set up factories in the local area,

focusing on power semiconductors such as MOSFETs.

At this stage, the supply of MOSFETs continues to be tight, and the local integrated component factory in Malaysia is unable to undertake new orders due to lack of labor,

which may make the MOSFET delivery time stretch again.
Secondly, Malaysia is also one of the major centers of global packaging and testing. According to statistics,

Southeast Asia has a market share of 27% in the global packaging and testing market, of which Malaysia occupies half of it, including ASE, Tongfu Microelectronics,
